I'm constantly analyzing the political landscape by listening to rhetoric & examining behavioral patterns and there is a type of person that I've come to label as "chaos agents" that I find troubling for us all.
I'm going to show you how to spot them.
First, let me state that this type of person isn't just on one-side of the aisle. It's a general personality type, which is why I'm not going to give names of people who I believe are chaos agents as it'll distract from what I'm describing. It's up to you to decide who is one.
I call these people chaos agents because their objective is ultimately to be the disrupter in politics. When there is a hurricane, they want to be the rising warm ocean air that further instigates the destruction around them.
They have no problem being part of controversy, often times it appears as if they thrive in it. They might consider themselves rebels or outliers fighting for a noble cause but use methods that are far from being noble; a by any means necessary mentality.
To throw the scent off who they really are, they tend to invest time in setting up a pretext for why we should fight the immoral by using the tactics of the immoral. Even Thanos had to rationalize why he should kill half the universe in order to save it.
Prominent chaos agents hijack narratives and place themselves as the mouthpiece of that particular topic. Not with sound rational arguments, but usually with harsh language, hyperbolic phraseology & bad faith interpretations. They're like a car crash; you can't help but to look.
They often use terms like "system", "institutional" and "deep state" to have their followers focus on the grand & insurmountable odds of defeating these evil-doers. The problem is never small, it's always grand & the only way to topple such a monster is with their leadership.
Chaos agents are purely grievance oriented & lack a strategy for resolution because, remember, their objective is continuous chaos. It would be like expecting the person who stabbed you to stich up your wound. They want the political environment to constantly bleed with confusion.
They'll never tell you how to defeat the deep state, only that the deep state needs to be defeated. The messenger is as much part of the system they claim to want to defeat. In this scenario, they need the existence of a deep state to continue the chaos.
When people start to figure out their manipulation, that's when they'll deploy slanderous tactics to stir further chaos. "Putin lover", "RINO", "bigot" etc. They understand it's hard to disprove a negative on a public stage & if they repeat it enough, people will believe it.
Chaos agents tend to be puritanical in their rhetoric. There is only one way to performatively be *insert ideology* and deviating from it is heresy. They are inconsistent because their rhetoric often deviates from their behavior.
For example, someone who may claim to be free-speech absolutists and anti-cancel culture when people like themselves are the targets of an oppositional mob will suddenly rationalize becoming pro-censorship and canceling someone who dares to challenge them.
There is always a pay-off in two possible ways: money or attention (which usually translates into future profits). To be clear, there is nothing wrong with making money off your work, however their profits come from contributing nothing of real substance & circulating drama.
Chaos agents understand the political environment is a constantly shifting and unstable one, making it difficult for regular people to decipher what's going on. Chaos agents portray themselves as being above the fray and the only ones who know "the truth".
The most annoying chaos agents are the ones who are constantly attacking their opposition & scream foul when they get smacked back. However, they wanted the retaliation so they can manufacture more chaos for us to debate over.
In the end, chaos agents don't want peace, they want your confusion: that's how they thrive. You should always examine if the words people use matches their behavior. This is how you can avoid being manipulated by a chaos agent.
Peaceful people don't engage in chaotic tactics.
How To Spot A 'Chaos Agent' In Politics
The points you make explain why so many good people won't go into politics. We need more teachers, nurses, doctors, police officers, small business owners in politics. And those who seek high office should have a track record of "low" office - years of grind helping out people in their communities.
It's interesting that you write about chaos agents. I call them division agents.. Jordan Sather exposes these types of people every day. The grifters included.
