She says “one of the only ways our state has been growing in recent years” as if that’s something to boast about!! Does she think that considerable tax base (sarcastic) sustains anything to speak of in California, of all places?!!

Thank you again for speaking the truth. Years ago, I had great sympathy for illegals in CA. They were encouraged to come with a wink, wink. I helped a Dreamer with college selection. But the drip, drip turned into a flood, and with it rhetoric that the nation state was itself a fascist notion that needed to be dismantled. (Much of this stems from Karl Popper and others after WWII, believing extreme nationalism was the cause of wars and death. They didn't realize the bloodshed Stalin had committed against the Ukrainians and Mao's bloodshed had yet to happen.) Local council members want illegals to vote in city elections. At first blush, it has an air of fairness. They live here, and if they own property, they pay those taxes as well as sales taxes. But this all feel good rhetoric is meant to give cover to the reality that someone entered the country illegally. I am friendly with a man whose parents came here illegally and then fought hard - meaning hired a lawyer and took the necessary steps - to become legal. He is now questioning the flood that came in. He relayed how he knows of those who crossed the border and were caught intentionally because they were then provided an airline ticket to where they wanted to go. He and I an open discussion. For awhile in LA, there were men meandering around who looked like soldiers of some kind. They seemed to have moved on but to where?

There is a lot of darkness in the world of human trafficking, even amongst people who want to be smuggled. It's so dark that Americans don't have the stomach to really absorb it.

We are given rosie narratives to support a system of exploitation and suffering. Questioning it, you're called xenophobic or racist, when in reality, you care far more about humanity than they ever will.

They like the pretend world of immigration rather than what it is. Usually, it's because they benefit from it somehow.

I appreciate you sharing your perspective.

Well we also pretend there isn't a human cost to all the cheap trinkets we get from China. Pre-lockdowns, I used to get a peace publication. It featured an article years ago on the dirty supply chain for Apple phones. Rumors of slave labor were documented. In 2021, the documentary of a Chinese prisoner (Letter from Masanjia ) who snuck a note into a halloween costume won accolades but no one discusses human organ harvesting. It is sort of the same formula where humans are treated as resources to be harvested. I heard arguments that Catholic Charities should be charged with human trafficking. As a Catholic, I am saddened but not surprised. We have to be vigilant against corruption. I know the Lutheran charities are accused of the same thing. I believe both have individuals who are not practicing the respective faith as head employees.

A useful reminder that nowadays, some of the dumbest American politicians come from California.

In Minnesota, I can be fined up to $27K per violation for hiring an undocumented worker. But, for Business Ownership: While they cannot be hired as employees, undocumented residents can legally start and own their own businesses in Minnesota. They do not need a Social Security number or work authorization to form an LLC. And of course, they can get food stamps, housing, education, and Medicaid for free, so they can work for $20 an hour cash and undercut legal residents while having all their necessities paid for by us taxpayers. So, there $20 an hour cash is all disposable income.... and the Democrats claim they are for working people... lmao

Slavery has always been an essential part of human society and " illegal immigration" is the modern name for it.

Another great column Adam. Thank you for this. I had leftist democrats I know vehemently berate me years ago for espousing white supremacist talking points when I pointed out what was plainly obvious and what democrats were lying through their teeth about…the great replacement. It wasn’t entirely based on race, but it was based on democrat politicians putting themselves first rather than their constituents and the nation. Democrat tax those who work and give to those who do not work ideas simply don’t work on the scale that democrats want to apply them. On that scale Democrat ideas are simply reworked communism…the equal sharing of misery. The only goal they have is themselves, the next election, and gaining or maintaining their own power and position. It’s disgusting. And you’ve shined a bright light on it and I’m ever so grateful. The oath that politicians take upon entering their office is something I’ve always found mildly amusing and entertaining. It’s the rare politician who actually lives up to it. Republicans are bad enough, but democrats have taken violating their oath to a different level. A modern first world nation does not need immigration of any kind, but especially of low income, poor, uneducated working class people. It’s not in our interests. And yet we are overrun by it. I have nothing against helping people in other countries, but that’s not the work for my government, it’s the work for my church. My government exists for one reason…me…and what’s in my best interests. That’s the sole underlying rationale for nation states and self-governance. It doesn’t exist to support people who aren’t citizens, who break the law simply by being here, nor does it exist to support big business and its need for less expensive labor. Big business wants to cheat and pay third world labor prices but charge first world prices for its products. That the democrat party of my youth, the party of the working man, has abandoned the American working class in favor of the working class of some other nation is appalling. It’s the story of the new millennia and you’re telling it. And their pandering and lies about what they’re really doing need to be highlighted. Thank you for doing so.

A terrific piece by you, Adam! Congresswoman Katie Porter’s answer in the CNN debate between California’s Gubernatorial candidates says it all. Illegal immigrants generally speaking aren’t Californians, they are folks from other countries who came into America illegally with the assistance of the cartels. I think it is proper to call illegal immigrants who’ve lived in California for many years a Californian. But not someone who came illegally recently. Nor should California be in the habit of letting in and harboring illegal immigrants and calling them Californians. No, this has nothing to do with race whatsoever! A black, Mexican, Asian, or Native American individual born in Sacramento, San Francisco or San Diego has more right to be in the state and should be prioritized over a white illegal immigrant from Russia or Poland for instance. The Democrats are under the mistaken impression that illegal immigrants are crucial to filling jobs and growing the state’s economy. But this is a mistaken assumption.

Illegal immigration does nothing of the kind. The only purpose it serves is increase the profits of big business and give them a never ending source of cheap labor they can always get more of if they need it. This is also so they don’t have to pay native born American workers a good wage and they can undercut unions. Illegal immigration actually does nothing at all for the state. Nor should illegal immigrants be getting welfare benefits or healthcare. Your priority should be the people of California which most illegal immigrants can not and should not be counted among! Look, I’m an independent centrist who is socially liberal. I’m for giving some illegal immigrants at least, amnesty and a pathway to citizenship. I think ICE needs to be reformed. I want the immigration quota to be raised so more legal immigrants can come to America. I am against President Trump’s attempts to get rid of birthright citizenship. I would like to see a temporary worker program started. But all that being said, I also believe that illegal immigration should not be encouraged nor should illegal immigrants be harbored.

In addition to my above beliefs, all I also believe that all sanctuary cities should be shut down, illegal immigrants who arrived in recent times should be deported, we should have robust but humane immigration enforcement, illegal immigrant truckers should be kept off the road at all costs, illegal immigrants should NOT be eligible for any benefits, companies who hire illegal immigrants should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and we must have robust border security. I know this is a complicated issue. I don’t think either side really understands that. But the solution is not to go to the extreme in one direction as the Democrats are doing right now.

I criticized ICE for killing Renee Good and Alex Pretti and for how they operate outside of the bounds of the Constitution, I’m against parts of Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown and I think Trump is sometimes too negative in his rhetoric about immigrants. But while the right I feel is blind to the realities of the immigration system and their solution to fix it is not ideal, I feel by the same token the left refuses to talk about the problems with immigration which are very real. Such as illegal immigrant truckers who can’t speak a word of English being allowed on the road and killing innocent people and crashing their trucks. I thank you for the documentary your making, Adam!

California citizens, not illegals 🤦🏼
