"To the left, it’s very clear there are only two types of acceptable black men: those who remain silent and do as they’re told, and those who loudly and effeminately defend a downtrodden ideology that infantilizes us."

Really well written.

There is another dimension here, which is that even if you vehemently disagree with or even dislike someone, that doesn't mean you shouldn't be willing to exchange ideas or disagreements with civility. How otherwise will Trump meet with Putin, or Schumer with Rand Paul? Implicit in this toxicity is a one-party totalitarianism that believes only their uni-party has the right to rule. That is the opposite of democratic, and the antithesis of our nation's history. Hopefully more Americans -- black and white -- will see this toxic race hate for what it is, and walk away.

Overreaction is right. And probably coming from overbearing angry race-hustlers who somehow believe those of us who were born Black have “Democrat” stamped on our birth certificates.😏

I was a cradle Democrat, and for much of the 90s was onboard with their platform. But that changed when my legal mentor, who was my fellow Dem in a Republican dominated firm, dismissed my support of school vouchers with words to the effect that as a liberal woman I couldn't hold that position. I was stunned. And then I realized that this was often the refrain in the party - you couldn't think a certain way. IThere were orders and you had to follow it. What is truly ironic is that the Dem party literally was the pro-slave party in the mid-1800s.

"Dismissed...with words to the effect that as a liberal woman I couldn't hold that position." Yes, it's not only black men being told what they're allowed to think.

1000%. A bit after that incident, a woman in LA was saying something dismissive about Republicans. She then hesitated and then reassured herself that of course "I" wasn't a Republican. I still thought of myself as sort of a Dem but was still gobsmacked at her assumption. Now I realized it is part of the playbook.

The Left definitely has a problem with anyone who doesn’t agree with them, especially if the individual is non-White or female.

Mr. Coleman, I *so* enjoy reading your work. Today you have tickled me with your use of "whitesplaining". Oh my goodness, did you coin that?? It is gold!

Your article is sensible, and I like how you point out how black men are being patronized and disrespected in a venue which people who may not have known that will read. Thank you for continuing to write and share.
