She was horrible. Utterly awful with zero talent. She made a mockery of the Olympics. She deserves every bit of scorn that she gets.

The Olympics made a mockery of themselves with that awful opening ceremony. She's the closing act, the second slice of moldy bread to close off the idiot sandwich.

If you're going to have reckless confidence, at least be able to back it up. Like that shooter guy who used no equipment and a DNGAF attitude who earned silver.

Yup. 💯 percent in agreement. One specific portion of this☝🏼 comment struck me… and in this case compelled me to comment on the comment.

‘Utterly awful with ZERO TALENT’

As a lifelong musician I can attest that breakdancing is similar

..,to playing an instrument in that the dancer manipulates their body to the rhythm and acrobatically expresses a routine in time with the music.

Talent is not natural ability… it’s the result of training and rigorous practice.

In this case there was none.

I just watched and thought it was a misplaced SNL parody. Not only can she not breakdance, but she can't dance, period. She can sort of move to the beat, but her moves are terrible. It's like watching and listening to karaoke when someone is doing a terrible chortling and it's obvious he or she believes they have a great voice. Painful to watch.

I honestly thought it was satire…..it looked like a poorly done comedy skit and no she absolutely should not be commended for that pitiful performance. Apparently she’s been told she can do or be anything she wants all her life which is the furthest thing from the truth. That’s the WORST thing you can tell your children.

Aye I couldn't watch it. To quote the kids today it was elite level 'cringe'..

As you say,the audacity of her believing she deserved to be at the Olympics, that she practiced this shambles of a routine day and night for months, supremely confident in her abilities.

Yet we are all thinking of the tip top level athletes of times past...

This new Olympics is full of men punching women in the face and being praised for it-and identity is everything.

It matters not that you are 300 pounds at 4 foot 9 in height, you identify as a figure skater and this shitshow will put you on a pedestal.

Even better if you have some mildly traumatic backstory-you'll get a Vogue cover and be hailed as inspirational.

It's not funny anymore, as if it ever was.

I’ve been seeing other commenters saying that this was all some elaborate hoax. kind of like the doggy rape academic paper by James Lindsey and pals. if so, my hats off.

either way, the fact that I can no longer tell what is real and what is fake is the most important point of all. what a world...

I couldn’t agree more with your analysis.

Rachael Gunn’s breakdancing was not only subpar, it appropiated black culture to a point where it became a caricature. Her smirky posture, emulating black ‘swagger’, actually made me cringe.

The fact that she actually has a PhD in breakdancing only makes this even more disturbing. So what point is she actually trying to make? Dr Gunn, who is also an academic, states that the “meritocracy” inherent in the male-dominated breaking culture is exclusionary and people of all abilities should be welcomed. In the name of equity ofcourse.

Translation: even if you suck, you should be able to compete.

And so this is what you get: clown-like theatricals instead of athletic merit.

This is where wokeness leads us.

That's the correct translation. Wokeness is about uplifting the mediocre and to do that we have to stop celebrating the best of us.

"Wokeness is about uplifting the mediocre"

No, sir. Wokeness is about justifying authoritarian means of leftists wielding political and cultural power. Wokeness is DEI / intersectionality / Critical race theory oppressor-oppressed ideology that states that evil rich male Christian (and Jewish, where applicable) white capitalists are responsible for all evil - and little good - in the world, and that the BiPoC and/or LGBTQ+++ “oppressed” are justified in using *any* means at all to overthrow their “oppressors” is a *major* source of the problem.

The immoral ideology behind woeness is also, e.g. the cause of about 50% of 18-24 year olds in this country (and no doubt a FAR higher percentage on college campuses) choosing “Back Hamas” (even when given 3 choices, including one to stay out of it) in the wake of the baby-decapitating, rapist murder and hostage rampage in Israel Oct 7th - and think themselves “virtuous” in the process.

Wokeness ideology is immoral, it is wrong, and it is dangerous.

I don't disagree that one of the byproducts of wokeness is that it is consistent with "uplifting the mediocre". Given its Marxist roots, this is unsurprising.

But wokeness is *much* more dangerous than being "about uplifting the mediocre"

Her approach was like the modern art approach to painting and sculpture: intellectualise away the need for basic skill to simply even try imitate good performance and instead frame laziness and silliness as groundbreaking.

The gold medal round was so fucking cool. Those dudes were doing moves that are usually reserved for gymnasts. That camaraderie between the finalist was like they were old friends. They both bowed to the judges. Super cool.

Shouldn’t be overshadowed by this talentless hack.
