Given the circumstances of the electorate in the state of New Jersey, it might be time for you to consider relocation. Especially if you are unable to afford the cost of living.

An exit strategy is in order.

"This summer I trained myself to bear the heat indoors — because the previous year I paid a king’s ransom for daring to feel comfortable in my own home." Let me add to your great observation that we have to endure No Kings protest so we all can pay king's ransom to feel comfortable. Our energy bills skyrocketed so much even my liberal neighbor called out for a meter check. During a heat wave, we put a the AC on for a few days. It added well over $400 to the bill. The unit is new and I kept the thermostat at 78. Newsoms brags about CA but we are riding the fumes of what others built long ago. He should be called out as some type of plagiarist where he is taking credit for others work.

Another amazing article you, Adam! The people of New Jersey have once again been convinced to vote against their own best interest. Mikie Sherrill seems like a kind and sincere person to me, but she's totally misguided and focused on the wrong things. Her campaign didn't talk about the issues; it focused on Trump. New Jerseyans will continue to be crushed under the weight of over-taxation, overregulation, the high cost of living, and strict zoning laws. Adam and many other New Jerseyans have to go without air conditioning in summer. Everything in the stores is ridiculously expensive. People dread getting their W-9 form during tax season. Governor-elect Sherrill will continue the failed policies of Phil Murphy, will continue to fund costly renewable-energy projects that aren't practical and will never be completed and New Jersey will continue to be a sanctuary state and harbor illegal immigrants. I think you should at least consider relocating. Here is what I would recommend the state of New Jersey do the make life better for its people. Cut taxes, do deregulation, reform zoning laws, cancel all costly renewable-energy projects, create your own version of the DOGE and audit the New Jersey state government and get rid of all wasteful spending, New Jersey will revoke its status as a sanctuary state and fully cooperate with ICE, all welfare benefits for illegal immigrants will be abolished, companies in the state who hire illegal immigrants will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, DEI, gender-affirming care for minors and Transgender people competing in women's sports, and reform the New Jersey public school system.

The New Jersey Democratic Party needs to completely revamp their policy platform. They should reform their platform to stand for the following:

* Supporting a woman's right to choose, abortion should be safe, legal and rare.

* Pro-LGBT rights however, it will be balanced with common sense, science and women's rights.

* Pro-Gun Control

* Pro-Universal Healthcare

* Pro-Tax Reform

* Cut taxes for the lower and middle classes.

* Roll back unnecessary and burdensome regulations.

* Support an efficiently managed social safety net.

* End all wasteful spending public works projects.

* Protect the environment while not breaking the bank.

* Support colorblindness, universalism and reasonable policies to assist minorities & women.

* Welcome legal immigrants to our state and amnesty and a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants who meet certain, specific criteria.

* Close all sanctuary cities and full cooperation with ICE.

Human history rolls on and we're at another inflection point. As the cost of living continues its growing inverse relationship with the standard of living, there will come a tipping point one way or the other. The last 10 years of hysteria are a symptom that the choice ahead is getting closer. One way I see to prevent a descent into communism is trim the federal budget back to the barebones, funding only the military, the DOJ and the highway system, and taxing by number of persons in each state. Get rid of the income tax and let the states do all the taxing of their residents however they decide, but each provides the same funds per citizen to pay for the above federal responsibilities. A simplistic start of an idea, but at least a start.
