The irony is CRT/DEI has its roots in the thoughts of pasty old white men, most notably Herbert Marcuse from Germany. Angela Davis reportedly said she was radicalized twice in the 1960s, once by Marcuse and then by the Palestinian situation and thus the 'white privilege' was born. When there is an open door to discussion, I explain that Marx was observing the extremely harsh conditions of the workers in England where a large number of children were working by age 7. Understanding such harsh realities, Frederick Douglas wrote the Black man has one master while the working white has a collective. I explain this not to be expand victimhood, but to try and create unity of how lucky we all are for the progress we've made.

I think you should write on what is currently happening in LA where the mayor fired the fire chief. Both are pointing fingers at each other. A massive lawsuit is sure to follow. At first, I was sympathetic to Mayor Bass finding criticisms of her being Ghana when the fires broke out unfair. And then the facts came out about how she was warned multiple times of the danger high winds posed. Add to it the former mayoral candidate reminding everyone that he ran on the need to fix structural problems such as water to fire hydrants. Whether he would/could have fixed things in time are a complete unknown. Unions, etc. were dead set against him. I don't blame Bass for the structural problems. We've had terrible mayors, particularly Garcetti, who have let the city implode. And Newsom, yikes, he blew up dams to return the environment to its natural state. The problem is that the natural state he refers to didn't contain a population of 39m. But I do know that the focus on DEI/Climate with disregard for infrastructure and land management has cost massive destruction and lost of lives.

Thanks for this great analysis. DEI and CRT ultimately seed racism instead of combat it -- judging (or hiring) people based solely on the color of their skin is racist and undermines merit. As you document here, the Robin Diangelos make a mint virtue-signaling, but there are no measurable improvements either to corporate performance or the lives of blacks and Hispanics. Martin Luther King, Jr. is back!!

As it happens, right after reading it I saw you on Sky News with Lefties Losing It. You did a terrific job! :) I'm a white guy who has spent my life opposing racism. I have read Sowell, McWhorter and now I'm reading Coleman Hughes. We need black voices to speak sanity as you do because if I say the exact same things I am labeled a racist because of my skin color. I'm grateful for your work and will get your books.

I think Robin D’Angelo is brilliant. She came up with the greatest grift of all time. Imagine a white woman convincing white people of their racism, which so many seemed to love, pay a ton for books and seminars, and beg for more. That woman cleaned up. I wish I had thought of it. She did a lot of damage, but so what? She’s rich.

I completely agree with your statement that corporations are driven by revenue (and ROI). Thus, it's easy for corporations to make significant changes that potentially improve their bottom line through expense reduction when a convenient scape goat, e.g., Trump, comes along.

The interesting and predictable aspect to this shift away from the corporate focus on DEI is the knee jerk reaction of many to something new. One would hope it's some form of meritocracy. I should think it will take several years and access to good data to fairly assess whether there will be significant negative employment consequences for members of the groups DEI was intended to help. Until then expect turmoil from the change.

I go to Costco and I love it there! I never knew that they had a DEI "initiative" because the employees are very diverse due to the nature of the area in which I live. They don't fly flags, decorate for holidays or push merchandise of a "controversial" nature. Target!.....I only go when I need to and I absolutely hate being bombarded with social justice merch when I walk through the door. I don't like to know that I'm "being sold to"....if that makes sense.

Phenomenal article, Adam! President Trump's executive order is not the primary cause of the rapid decline of DEI. It's the fact that DEI is expensive, makes no money and garners widespread public backlash. Companies foolishly decided to embrace it during the summer of 2020 when the Great Awokening reached its crescendo. But they quicky learned when they looked at their books, saw the upheaval in the workplace, were slapped with a million lawsuits, and got pounded by consumer boycotts they realized what they had gotten themselves into. Trump's executive order simply provided them with a convenient way out. DEI isn't about what people think it is. It's not about equal opportunity for all and building a diverse and inclusive workplace. It's about giving people positions based on their race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc. rather than their qualifications and teaching employees to treat each other as groups rather than as individuals. DEI goes against everything those in the Abolitionist and Civil Rights Movements fought for. Frederick Douglass and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. fought to create an America where we weren't judged by our skin color but based on our individual merits and how competent and talented one is. That's the world they dreamed of. DEI seeks to reproduce the world they lived in in the 19th and 20th Centuries just in reverse. Furthermore, if you really want to show your company values everyone all you have to do is treat everyone with respect, make products that universally appeal to everyone and give everyone equal opportunity who wishes to work for you. You don't need to do all the silly pandering like having a "pride collection" or making pink and purple M&Ms and a package that specifically "celebrates women" or making "non-binary toys." All that will get you is plummeting sales and people on X and Substack making fun of you and ripping you to shreds and rightly so.

I say “good riddance.” The acronym should have been DIE, as this Liberal concept has figuratively killed morale and good will in the workplace.

Not sorry to see it being rolled back or completely eradicated.

Great well researched column. I agree that DEI was sort of pushed on companies who really felt that had no choice but to comply… when in reality most were thinking the same thing… “this is not beneficial to anyone”
