The test has always been simple: act with chivalry and see what she says. If she disagrees or dismisses, she’s not worth getting to know.

Old school rules became old school rules because of two reasons, they worked and they were consistent with human behavior. Our culture casts aside nearly everything that is represented by what I'll loosely describe as "age old wisdom," you know, all those old trite sayings and beliefs you grew up hearing from older people, including parents, grand parents, teachers, priests, pastors, and rabbis, among others. There was a truth to such things and over my 60+ years I've watched "modern" culture turn its back on all those old sayings and beliefs and the results of abandoning that age old wisdom are readily apparent across our culture every day.

Whilst making that point I completely agree with Kimberly Anne's point that women do need to know how to protect themselves and be willing to do so if necessary because the masculine man in your life won't always be there, but that's not mutually exclusive with the other point...that women are drawn to a masculine man who can protect them. Obviously that's not the only criteria in attraction between the sexes and I don't think that Melanie Notkin is saying that. Neither is "empowerment" and mutual respect the entire contents of the "secret sauce." Human attraction is far more complex than that and of course the points made by Melanie Notkin and Kimberly Anne are both huge generalizations...but every comment on any subject that applies to millions and millions of people across the culture is also, obviously, a huge generalization. That alone doesn't invalidate such comments.

As posted on YouTube...

One of the fascinating things about the current times, and the intense "No Trumpers" narrative is that only a little while ago, the leading political strategist for the Democrats and one of the leading political strategists for the Republicans were married to each other! Fast forward a few years, and people are making life choices based upon political party, like such designations were actually real, versus a bad episode of "Let's Make a Deal." Sad.
