Adam - I get to make the first comment. Cool. Great column. You hit the perfect tone on this day of Thanksgiving. Bravo to you for suggesting that we all take the correct Christian stand and look towards reconciliation through forgiveness rather than continued rancor with family and friends. That’s a course of action that is neither easy to suggest nor to go through with. If everyone followed that guidance the nation and the world would be a better place.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Perfectly said: "Forgiveness is not for the person who harmed you, it’s a gift you give yourself. Letting go of that hatred, anger, and resentment will free you."

Forgiveness has many definitions, and while I don't let the hate and malice of others stay with me, I also don't forget, but it's not been a problem for me since every single Progressive former friend, acquaintance or relative that went down the hate-mob route has just dug in their heels and refuse to talk. If they ever come around and admit they descended into nastiness and are truly repentant, I am open to a renewal.

Always forgive, but I do not forget. My 36 yr old cousin(I am 55) has accused me of things I cannot even describe here; he is a millennial and is most unreasonable as he has really never done anything in life in terms of risk. As a 36 yr old I would have never treated elders with disrespect. Some of that generation is amazingly ignorant growing up in the Obama era.

I have found a way to forgive as well. It’s the right approach morally and it is healthier. However, I still live with the weight of understanding how many people are weak, disappointing and dangerous. Groupthink seems to be a bug in human nature.
