Thank God for the vast coalition that elected him. I want to thank the democrats for gifting us this coalition because without their insanity of the last decade, I don't believe as many people (on both sides) would have come out of their corner of the boxing ring. The only identity group Trump represents is that of American citizens.
I admit to being somewhat shocked by the rash of people doing "The Trump Dance," particularly in sports. Justine Bateman mentioned in one of her first post-election Tweets that his election allowed her to come out a long period of "walking on eggshells." Apparently, she wasn't the only one!
Joe and Mika have called Trump the most dangerous man alive, yet they travel to Mar-aLago and probably order dinner. It’s the biggest sham ever. The walk back is happening even if they’re sneering as they do it.
My X timeline is polluted with View clips. I wish we would just ignore these harpies and let them fade away.
I suspect that there might be change coming to the tone of The View soon as well. I think a lot of people are realizing that they're alienating audiences. Some will die on the sword.
You or any journalist could do a full historical documentary timeline on the shows and celebrities Trump was with, of all nationalities. That is until rode down the golden escalator. Why was that, why did MSM and legacy media turn on the darling guest and primetime show star. What had de done that was so egregious? Flip parties? Call out the swamp? Want to eliminate the dark state? MAGA? Oh the horror the absolute blasphemy of it all!
What's interesting is that in 2011, he identified as a Republican and was talking trash about Obama while on The View. Barbara Walters still called him "My friend".
He was saying the same thing then that he is today. I think they just didn't take him seriously until he really did try to snatch power.
Adam, great column. I have a good friend I served with in the Army. He was an enlisted Special Forces (Green Beret) Noncommissioned officer and then earned his bachelors degree and his Ph.d in psychology and came on active duty as an Army Psychologist. I served with him at Fort Bragg and in Afghanistan. He often says that humans are immensely complex and defy attempts to define them in a simple manner. That seems like it was a description designed to characterize President Trump and your column highlighted that complexity so well. "Official" narratives are often so appealing b/c they are simple and succinct, characteristics that people crave. Unfortunately simple and succinct can also be wrong or at the least misleading and incomplete. Trump is not perfect as you point out, but he's a human being, a person, and before judging him people ought to see some of that complexity. So one lesson from you column is that people should be wary and skeptical of the simplistic narrative from "officialdom" as it is often wrong because it is incomplete. A great take on a complex issue.
I am not a Trump supporter. But I do find the moral panic by some on the political left over the Trump dance somewhat funny. Last night, after scoring over Jamaica, Christian Pulisic started the Trump dance, and some of his teammates joined in. A loud section of US Soccer fandom (which skews left to be sure) just blew up.
I'm a big soccer fan (watch mostly European leagued) and people have no clue how woke the U.S. / MLS fan bases are. Their reaction is no surprise to me.

Definitely not the only one.
Once again I say AMEN. You bring such valuable insight into the world. Thank you!
My pleasure!
Very well said. It is amazing how pop culture can turn on a dime.
Regardless of what you think of the man, he has probably taken more abuse than anyone in the 21st Century. The fact that he keeps on going is amazing.
Yep. The 'Nazi dictator' hugging a 'slave' champion is classic irony on the 'narrative'.

They need a total regime change.

Right! Politicians run for office. Monsters "try to snatch power."
It's a play on words. He won an election.

Another thoughtful and thought-full commentary. Thanks ABC for “speaking wrong”!
Also thank you for becoming a subscriber!
I’ve been considering “paid subscription” for awhile, but this column clinched it! A Thanksgiving gift to myself! Thank you.
My pleasure!
As they feel their grip loosening, some let go and others grip more tightly. Hence the hilarious schism we see forming in the mainstream media and elsewhere... https://thewholetruthpublications.substack.com/p/the-media-to-embrace-or-reject-reform?r=4dg1kb
